In 2015, the Window Covering Manufacturers Association (WCMA) introduced the industry’s first, 3rd party certification program designed to help consumers and retailers identify window coverings best suited for homes with young children.
SAFETY RULES
- Install only cordless window covering in children’s sleeping areas.
- Move all cribs, beds, furniture and toys away from windows, and window coverings with cords – or replace with cordless versions.
- Keep all window pull cords and inner lift cords out of reach of children.
- Secure tasseled pull cord and inner lift cords.
- Ensure all continuous loop cords are permanently anchored to floor or wall.
- Ensure all cord stops are properly installed and adjusted to limit movement of inner lift cords.
- Lock cords into position whenever shades are lowered, including when resting on window sill.
- Never mount products with accessible back cords within reach of children
- Replace window blinds, corded shades and draperies manufactured prior to 2001 with today’s safer products.
